Alexis Sanchez has endured a torrid first year at Manchester United, managing to find the net just four times since moving to the club in a straight swap deal with Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Chile international is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, something Mourinho recently opened up about.

"There have been no scans yet. But the player is experienced, the player knows what the injury is and also from the top of my experience, just the painful scream and the way the injury happened, I know it's going to be for a long time," the Manchester United boss said.

"The Lindelof one was not an easy one, so Alexis has what I used to call an aggressive muscular injury."

The Independent say United have decided to send Sanchez back to Chile in the hope that time in his own country will do him the world of good.

United have, the Independent say, sent Sanchez home in the hope he can kick on.

United feel that, by going back to Chile, Sanchez will be given the time to recover both mentally and physically.
