Anti-racism campaigners have called for Twitter action after Manchester United star Ashley Young was abused online after the Reds Champions League exit.

"Yet another black player, this time Ashley Young, targeted with racist abuse on social media after tonight’s Champions League game" they said.

The Reds fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat in the Nou Camp last night, meaning they were knocked out of the Champions League 4-0 on aggregate.

Lionel Messi's first goal was the result of United captain Ashley Young being dispossessed and he was hammered by supporters online.

However it has now emerged  he was subject to vile racial abuse by so called United "fans" as part of the criticism.

"Again, we’re left asking Twitter the same question - when will you take serious action to tackle the rampant discrimination on your platform?"

And Kick It Out called on the social media platform to take action.
