Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Manchester United fans can expect to see a lot more of Brandon Williams after a thoroughly impressive full Premier League debut against Brighton on Sunday.

The 19-year-old started at left-back in the 3-1 win over the Seagulls, having made two Premier League appearances off the bench earlier in the season.

Solskjaer chose the teenager over the vastly experienced Argentina international Marcos Rojo, and says that it will be difficult not to pick Williams again.

‘Brandon was excellent. He’s played well before, but first start at Old Trafford in a Premier League game, you don’t know how he’s going to react,’ said the Norwegian.

‘But he was looking forward to it. I told him on Thursday just look forward to this one, I thought it was more fair to him when he’s playing his first game that he didn’t play on Thursday, so excellent performance.

‘He’s done nothing wrong since he’s come in and making it hard for me [to leave him out], definitely. He’s really, really impressed me, I have to say. He’s making it hard to leave him out.

‘Quite a few of the fans that have been here, young boys maybe, have been here thinking, “I want to be like Williams, I want to be like Martial, I want to be like Rashford”.

‘But these are young boys as well so it’s still gonna be ups and downs and today was definitely a game you start on front foot, get your confidence and then it’s, “how many are we going to get?”‘

Goals from Andreas Pereira and Marcus Rashford, either side of an own goal from Davy Propper gave United an important three points which took them up to seventh in the table.

Solskjaer’s young side impressed against Brighton but the manager is keen not to get too carried away, given that the win was only their fourth in 12 Premier League games this season.

‘The table does not really matter at the moment,’ he continued. ‘We need to keep improving and keep winning games and see where it takes us.’
