Manchester United will go to Anfield three points clear of the Premier League champions after a Paul Pogba-inspired victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
United made wholesale changes from the team that started against Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday, with Eric Bailly the only player to keep his place in the side as he started alongside captain Harry Maguire in the centre of defence.
An action-packed first half saw a VAR check for possible red cards against players from both sides carried out, with Luke Shaw and Robbie Brady both under the microscope, but neither man was dismissed, before Harry Maguire's headed goal was harshly chalked off for a supposed foul.
United were the dominant side after the break and Pogba proved the difference as his volley from Marcus Rashford's cross deflected past Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.
Next up: Merseyside, and a chance to go six points clear of Liverpool.
