Chris Smalling says he's now settled into life in Italy's Serie A after revealing the difference between life at Manchester United and Roma.

The United central defender secured a season-long loan move to AS Roma in the summer transfer window and, after missing the first couple of games of the season through injury, has established himself in the side.

“I find it’s been brilliant [with Fonseca]," Smalling added.

Smalling then lauded manager Fonseca, who has introduced the on-loan United defender into the Roma side of late and has put faith in his abilities.

On the difference between Italian football and the Premier League, Smalling admitted it's a new challenge to be now facing two-men strike forces, which have fallen out of fashion in England.

As well as praising Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca, he revealed he's moved his family from Manchester to Rome and is embracing life in the Italian capital.

"In England quite often you have to deal with just one striker, so you’ve got your other central defender covering you – whereas often here you can be left two-on-two a lot of the time.
