Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes disagreed over whether it was clear that a West Brom penalty should have been overturned against Manchester United on Saturday night.

After a low-key first half, the game burst into life shortly after the break when Bruno Fernandes was adjudged to have fouled West Brom's Conor Gallagher in the penalty area by David Coote.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, former Reds defender Ferdinand blasted Coote's decision to overturn his decision to award West Brom a spot-kick minutes earlier.

"I know it does look like a little bit of shin on shin but it does look like he touches the ball a little bit as well.

"They (West Brom) are looking for little opportunities in a game like that, they get one and it gets taken from them.

You've got to look at it from a West Brom point of view as well, they've come here and been tight, kept to their gameplan and been solid.

He's gone there, looked at it, how do you actually go against the decision you've made initially when you're looking at it closely?
