Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is set to be a feature on Premier League and Champions League TV coverage in the 2019/20 season.

Van Persie retired from football last month as he called time on a glittering career that spanned over 20 years and saw him represent Feyenoord, Arsenal, United and Fenerbahce before finally returning to his boyhood club for a second stint.

Van Persie will join fellow former United players Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves in working on BT Sport.

He netted 58 times in 105 games for United and played a crucial part in securing the Premier League title as he won the Golden Boot in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge.

The broadcaster will show 52 Premier League matches during the new season, an increase of 20 on last term.

The Mirror reports that the 35-year-old will now become the big-name signing for BT Sport ahead of the new campaign.

But mainly just enjoy that little bit of freedom I have now, which I never had."
