Gary Lineker fired a dig at the former Manchester United midfielder (BBC)

Gary Lineker mocked Paul Ince on live TV over his comments about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impact at Manchester United.

In January, Ince admitted he had reservations about Solskjaer’s arrival and claimed ‘anyone’ could have had a positive impact on the players following Jose Mourinho’s turbulent reign at Old Trafford.

‘I could have gone in and done the same thing, so could Steve Bruce,’ said the former United midfielder.

‘Anyone could have gone in and done what he has done, it wasn’t a hard thing to do to give those players freedom and improve the mood.’

But before United’s FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday, Lineker took the opportunity to remind Ince, who was working as a pundit for the BBC, about his views.

After the BBC showed an interview with Solskjaer, Lineker turned to Ince and said: ‘A lot has been said about what Solskjaer has done but anyone could have done it couldn’t they, Paul?’

Lineker’s quip was met with laughter from both Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, while Ince clarified his comments.

‘No, he has [done a good job] to be fair,’ said Ince.

‘As I said before and I’ll stick by it, at the start of it because things were so bad at Manchester United it wasn’t hard to change things around.

‘But what he’s done is taken it to another level.

‘Performances have gone bigger and bigger, and you can tell by his team today he wants to win a trophy.’
