Jamie Redknapp urged Manchester United to sign £100million transfer target Jadon Sancho after the club’s impressive Premier League victory over Brighton.

The Red Devils moved back to fifth in the Premier League – two points below fourth-placed Chelsea – with an emphatic 3-0 win at Brighton on Tuesday night.

Mason Greenwood justified his selection in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting line-up with United’s opener as he cut in from the right and beat Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan with a low strike.

Bruno Fernandes, who has been a revelation since arriving at Old Trafford in January, doubled United’s lead shortly after with a deflected shot from outside the box.

In a game Manchester United dominated from start to finish, Fernandes added his second and the visitors’ third shortly after the break, thumping home a superb volley after a brilliant move.

Redknapp was full of praise for Solskjaer’s side after the match and said Manchester United now looked like a team capable of doing ‘real damage’.

But he believes Ed Woodward should still be looking to bolster United’s squad this summer, specifically with the signing of Borussia Dortmund and England star Sancho.

Sancho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months but his £100m valuation may prove problematic for the Manchester United hierarchy.

Redknapp, speaking to Sky Sports, said: ‘This [Manchester United] team could do some real damage.

‘They’ve got so much quality and pace. If they add Sancho as well they will be even better.

‘Brighton were poor tonight, really poor. But Manchester United punished them. They started the match so well and never let off.’

Reacting to his team’s dominant display, Red Devils manager Solskjaer said: ‘The boys played some exceptional stuff.

‘Mason’s first goal was brilliant and he played fantastically. He’s a special kid, we know when he gets faced up he looks dangerous. His link up play was great today.

‘He’s got a knack of that, he can go inside or outside, he is developing into a fine player. We know we have pace and we want to counter quickly, it was a fantastic goal [the third goal], we are very happy with it.

‘I don’t care about making a statement, I know we are a good team. We will recover and then focus on the next one.’

Solskjaer added: ‘They have reason to be confident because they are playing fantastically. There is quality in that team, our players are fit and we have competition for places now.’
