?Joan Gaspart, who was the vice-president of ?FC Barcelona during the time that they managed to sign Diego Maradona, has sensationally revealed the chain of incidents that led to the Catalan giants sign one of the best footballers of all time.

Gaspart explained that the directors who went over to sign him had to be escorted to the airport in a tank.

Maradona played for Boca Juniors for one season between 1981 and 1982 before which he made the move to the Catalonian capital at the end of the 1982 season.

He continued, "To take Maradona away from Argentina at that time was almost like an attack on the Boca Juniors fans.

The Argentinean maestro made just 36 appearances for Barcelona over two seasons, scoring 22 goals before moving to ?SSC Napoli in 1984.

"I remember that we went to the airport in a tank because the police told us that there was a risk of an attack between the hotel and getting on the plane," ?Marca quote Gaspart recalling in an interview with the YouTube channel 'Idolos'.

So we got in the tank and with cars and motorbikes they took us all the way to the plane's steps.
