Manchester United registered their most impressive display of the season with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side blew the visitors away in the first half as goals from Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku gave the hosts a comfortable advantage by the break.

Aboubakar Kamara converted a penalty to give a brief glimmer of hope to Claudio Ranieri’s men in the second half but Marcus Rashford, who was excellent all afternoon, put the game beyond any doubt by scoring United’s fourth with eight minutes remaining.

The victory ends United’s dismal run of four games without a win in the Premier League, while for Mourinho, the result is also a significant personal milestone.

It was the 50th Premier League win for Mourinho as United manager and the Portuguese actually managed to reach that milestone far quicker than Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho needed 92 games to reach 50 wins, while Ferguson, who took charge of United in November 1986, required 115 matches to register 50 league wins as manager.

But compared to both stints at Chelsea, Mourinho has fallen short.

In his first spell at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho only needed 63 games to reach 50 wins, while in his second stint he required 73 matches.

Speaking after United’s win over Fulham, Mourinho said: ‘We needed it.

‘The last three matches we didn’t lose, but didn’t win. Now we have two away matches, then two at home.

‘Let’s see if we can get more points from those matches.

‘The players have shown they can be a better team than they are. When there is solidarity in the team, everyone giving their maximum, you attract more positive things.’
