'Judge me in five or six years': Harry Maguire tells doubters he's in it for the long-haul at Manchester United amid shocking run of resultsHarry Maguire signed for Manchester United from Leicester City in the summerThe England international cost £80million, a world-record fee for a defender But despite promising early signs, United's form has plummeted in recent weeksOle Gunnar Solskjaer's team go into the international break in 12th positionMaguire insists his performances will only improve if team as a whole improves

Harry Maguire has told supporters to assess his time at the club after 'five or six years', as he pushes for success in the long-term'.

United have not won in their last five minutes and are yet to win away from home in any competition this season - the latest showing was a shock 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

But Maguire, who signed from Leicester City in the summer, believes the team will improve in the long run.

Harry Maguire has been unable to arrest Manchester United's drastic drop in performance

Speaking to the club's official magazine Inside United, Maguire said: 'It's the long term, that's what the main thing is.

'In five or six years, judge me then - whether I have been a success at this club or not.

'I do believe and am really confident that, in five or six years, I'll be a success and I am sure we'll have many, many good times here.

United courted Maguire all summer and eventually agreed an £80million deal with Leicester

'We need to keep improving as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we improve as a team, I'll be a success too.'

Maguire has slotted into the United defence seamlessly, and has played every minute of every Premier League game thus far.

Irrespective of the hefty fee on Maguire's head, the 26-year-old said that his £80million world-record fee for a defender doesn't bother him in the slightest.

'It doesn't bother me at all,' he said. 'It's something that I can't affect. Leicester wanted to keep me and they are in a great position as a club.

'Manchester United wanted to buy me and they came to an agreement. It's probably a good deal for both parties and it's something now where I want to concentrate on my football.'

Maguire is currently on international duty with England, who play Czech Republic in Prague on Friday and Bulgaria in Sofia on Monday in two Euro 2020 qualifiers.

But United welcome Premier League leaders Liverpool after the international break, on October 20 at Old Trafford.
