Pep Guardiola's transfer priority will centre on finding a long-term successor for Sergio Aguero after the Manchester City boss committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract earlier this week.

City started the weekend in tenth place ahead of Saturday's trip to high-flying Tottenham but were hoping to count on the services of Aguero who has managed just three appearances so far this season.

According to the Daily Telegraph, City looked at the possibility of signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter last summer.

City are also monitoring Lionel Messi's contract situation at Barcelona, but Guardiola again reiterated his desire to see his former talisman see out his career with the Catalan giants.
