After a season without a seat at Europe's top table United are back in the Champions League this season, but it's been evolution rather than revolution for Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

The condensed nature of the 2020/21 calendar means the Champions League group stage fixtures will arrive in a blur either side of November's international break and they sandwich at least four Premier League fixtures that will be categorised as tricky for United.

The last time Old Trafford hosted Champions League football Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent reign was in its infancy and a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Barcelona has come to look a lot worse than it was since that quarter-final exit.

The problem is accentuated by the fixtures United face either side of their Champions League games before Christmas.

They've got three weeks to make a successful run in the Champions League look more likely.

Solskjaer showed his lack of faith in his second-string options as the Premier League season reached its conclusion and in the final stages of the Europa League campaign in Cologne, but in the transfer window so far only Donny van de Beek has arrived to strengthen the options available to the United manager.

In the following midweek there's a Champions League game sandwiched by that game against Frank Lampard's side and Arsenal.
