Manchester United are reportedly confident Paul Pogba will be fit to face Liverpool next weekend amid rumours the Frenchman has suffered a fractured toe.

United sit 12th in the Premier League and are just two points clear of the relegation zone.

By contrast, Liverpool have won all eight of their Premier League matches so far and have already opened up an eight-point gap to second-placed Manchester City who suffered their second defeat of the campaign against Wolves at the Etihad last week.

He aggravated the injury in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford and was absent from matches at AZ Alkmaar and Newcastle .

Reports in France suggested Pogba had cracked a toe in the Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale at Old Trafford, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made no reference to that when discussing the midfielder's injury.

United host table-topping Liverpool at Old Trafford next Sunday and are desperate to have Pogba available as they look to arrest a slump which has seen the Red Devils record their worst start to a season for 30 years.

Pogba has featured in just two of United's last seven matches due to a niggling problem with his ankle.
