Manchester United have reportedly identified Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente as a possible loan option in the January transfer window.

The earliest provisional return date for the pair is the Premier League game away to Chelsea on February 17.

Llorente moved to Atletico from Real Madrid for £35million in the summer but has only started three of their 19 La Liga matches and managed 16 minutes in the league and Champions League over the last eight weeks.

Despite his peripheral status, Llorente still emerged in the Supercopa semi-final and final against Barcelona and Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia last week.

Solskjaer indicated two months ago United could secure a loan deal in the winter window and the difficulty of finalising permanent deals in January has convinced the club hierarchy to consider a temporary transfer in midfield.

Maybe one or two could be a loan deal but that is not a big money thing, it is just to help the team."

United are focusing on players lacking game-time at clubs in the major European leagues, and Llorente is behind Saul Niguez, Thomas Teye, Koke and Hector Herrera in the Atletico midfield pecking order.
