Manchester United have suffered a 'sophisticated' cyber attack on the club's systems, it was confirmed on Friday night.

Despite suffering the attack from 'organised cyber criminals,' United are unaware of any personal data breaches of fans or customers.

The club said in a statement: "Manchester United can confirm that the club has experienced a cyber attack on our systems.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side host West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday night and the fixture is set to go ahead as planned, with the attack having no impact on the 'critical systems' needed for matches to be played at Old Trafford.

"Although this is a sophisticated operation by organised cyber criminals, the club has extensive protocols and procedures in place for such an event and had rehearsed for this eventuality.

“We are confident that all critical systems required for matches to take place at Old Trafford remain secure and operational and that tomorrow’s game against West Bromwich Albion will go ahead.”

Our cyber defences identified the attack and shut down affected systems to contain the damage and protect data.
