Manchester United diverted their attention from Chelsea-bound Hakim Ziyech to concentrate on Borussia Dortmund’s wonderkid Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

Sancho, 19, looks set to leave the German club in the summer, with the Red Devils keeping a keen eye on the in-form winger.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are close to finalising a £37.8million deal to bring Morrocan international Ziyech to Stamford Bridge, who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side also monitored.

According to the Evening Standard, United failed to rival Chelsea for Ziyech as they were more interested in the young English trio of Sancho, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Leicester City’s James Maddison.

England international Sancho, who is leading Europe’s top five leagues in goal contributions (25), would set the Manchester club back more than £100m.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward may choose to look elsewhere, with a potential £160m double swoop for attacking midfielders Maddison and Grealish on the cards.

Earlier this week Woodward alluded to plenty of imminent transfer activity, he said: ‘We do recognise that we are not yet where we want to be.

‘As part of the rebuild we see this coming summer as an important opportunity.

‘There has been no shortage of investment in players over the past few years, with over £200m spent since Ole became manager.

‘Our aim is to ensure that we continue to achieve consistency in quality of recruitment.’

All three targets fit in with Norwegian boss Solskjaer’s remit to recruit young, domestic talent, following on from the previous signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Welshman Daniel James.
