Rio Ferdinand has suggested Juan Sebastian Veron's chances of success at Manchester United were nullified by the presence of Roy Keane.

United eventually cut their losses with him, selling Veron to Chelsea for £15m in 2003.And after hailing his talent, Ferdinand claimed his former team-mate's issue was that he deferred to Keane with both wanting to take up the same positions on the pitch.

Asked to choose between Veron and the former Real Madrid midfielder Guti, Ferdinand said: 'Oh what a good question.

Veron or Gutifor the older listeners, older viewers out here, Veron, Sebastian Veron, scored one of the best goals I've ever seen in training.

The only thing I think that killed him was Roy Keane was probably a bit more of a dominant personality and was picking the ball up in his positions.

'You have to remember Veron came from Lazio, Parma where he was the main man, the whole game went through him.

'I honestly think without Roy Keane there he might have flourished in a Man United shirt.
