Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Mario Mandzukic to sign the Juventus striker in January, according to reports in Italy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer allowed both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to join Inter in the summer but United failed to recruit a new striker.

Solskjaer has now indicated that United’s priority in the January transfer window is to bolster his attacking options with a new forward.

Mandzukic was reportedly close to joining United in the summer as part of the deal which would also have seen Paulo Dybala make the move to Old Trafford.

But United pulled out of their move for the Argentine, while Mandzukic also ended up staying with Juve.

The Croatia international has not featured at all for Juve this season, while Maurizio Sarri left him out of his side’s Champions League squad which means he cannot feature in Europe.

According to Tuttosport, Juve will be looking to sell Mandzukic in January and the striker’s entourage already have a verbal agreement in place with United.

The report also claims that Juve will make a fresh move to sign Paul Pogba and are willing to offer Mandzukic to United as part of their bid.

Mandzukic, meanwhile, has turned down a move to Qatar-based side Al-Rayyan, who reportedly offered him a deal worth £7m a year.

The 33-year-old has scored 44 goals in 162 appearances for Juve.
