Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule out a Manchester United move for Gareth Bale despite the club's focus on long-term additions in the transfer window.

Speculation over Bale's Real Madrid future has intensified in the wake of Zinedine Zidane's reappointment as Real coach on Monday.

"I can’t really comment on Gareth Bale or specific players," Solskjaer said.

Although Solskjaer is still yet to be informed whether he will be appointed as the permanent United manager, he suggested last month United could shy away from their 'superstar' strategy.

Former United manager Jose Mourinho also publicly courted Bale during the 2017 summer window.

Scholes helped former United youth coach Warren Joyce manage the reserves in 2011 until he reignited his playing career and Solskjaer insists the club great is welcome to return to watch United train.

United have made at least four attempts to sign Bale, who turns 30 in July, since they scouted him as a teenager at Southampton in the 2006-07 season and they submitted a world record £86million offer in 2013, the summer Bale moved to Madrid.
