Manchester United have held on to their position as the Premier League’s most valuable team, and are the only English side to feature in the top 30 of the world’s top sports teams, according to Forbes.

United sit tenth in Forbes’ list of the most valuable sports teams on the planet, with a valuation of £2.9billion.

The business magazine’s latest compilation comes 10 years on from the club topping the list, five years after the Glazer family’s £790million takeover.

NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys now head the list, having been valued at £4.2billion ahead of baseball’s New York Yankees, who are valued at £3.8billion.

The remainder of the top five comprises NBA teams, with the LA Lakers (£4.4billion), New York Knicks (£3.5billion) and the Golden State Warriors (£3.2billion).

Despite having fallen from the top over the last decade, United remain well ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Only three other English sides feature in the top 50, with neighbours Manchester City their closest rivals in 34th with a value of £2.1billion.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (£2.3billion) are the only other football team in the top 50, sitting 24th on the list which is dominated by American sports teams.
