Manchester United youngster Regan Poole says he'll take up the option of an extra year on his contract if offered, after impressing on loan at Newport County this season.

The 20-year-old Wales and United centre-back heads to Wembley next week as Newport take on Tranmere in the League Two play-off final.

He's made steady progress playing for Wales Under-21s and is desperate to impress United legend and national team boss Ryan Giggs, who could hand him a call-up alongside the likes of Daniel James and David Brooks — both of whom have been linked with a transfer to the Reds in recent weeks.

“I’ve played with them (James and Brooks) for a long time now and it’s great to see them go on and play in the Premier League and the Championship,” added the United youngster.

“We saw them against Slovakia – they were very good,” Poole added.

It's full circle for Poole, who United signed from Newport in 2015 but despite a productive loan spell back in his native south Wales, could depart the Reds this summer.

“It could be a big summer, but I’m happy with how my loan has gone and hopefully (United want to extend the deal).” Poole's only taste of first team action for United came as a substitute the same Europa League tie in which Marcus Rashford burst onto the scene with a brace in 2016.
