Manchester United are keen to recruit reinforcements in midfield and look to have identified Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente as a potential candidate.

Is he right for Manchester United?

Long term injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have left United thin on the ground in midfield, therefore Ole Gunnar Solskajer and his staff clearly think the Reds need cover in that area as they head towards the business end of the season.

Llorente moved to Atletico from Real Madrid for £35million in the summer but has only started three of their 19 La Liga matches so far this season.

Llorente tends to thrive playing as a defensive midfielder but can play the same in a range of formations.

However, Llorente averages a higher number of defensive duels per 90 minutes and additionally possesses agility and youth ahead of United’s ageing 31-year-old midfielder.

Based on the above, there is plenty of appeal when assessing the merits of the former Real Madrid man.
