Marcus Rashford has held an "assuring" conversation with Boris Johnson after images emerged of inadequate food parcels on social media.

Johnson later responded to Rashford's tweet, saying: "I totally agree with you @MarcusRashford, these food parcels do not meet the standards we set out and we have made it clear to the company involved that this is disgraceful.

The company concerned has rightly apologised and agreed to reimburse those affected."

Writing on Twitter, Rashford gave an update after speaking to the Prime Minister.

Rashford has once again spearheaded demands for improvements to the “hampers”, set up to replace a £15-a-week shopping voucher scheme but have been priced up at just over £5 worth of food from local supermarkets, in some instances.

"I'm grateful by the way to Marcus Rashford has highlighted the issue and is doing quite an effective job by comparison with (Sir Keir Starmer) in holding the Government to account for these issues.

He agrees that images of hampers being shared on Twitter are unacceptable.” During Prime Minister's Questions, Johnson said: "I don't think anybody is happy with the disgraceful images that we've seen the food parcels that have been offered, they are appalling and they are an insult to families."
