Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he made a mistake bringing on Marcus Rashford against Wolves after the Manchester United striker suffered a back injury during the FA Cup win.

"It backfired," the United manager told BT Sport.

Solskjaer admitted his decision to risk Rashford failed after the forward complained of a back injury earlier in the week.

Rashford came on with the game goalless after 63 minutes, and though Juan Mata soon found the net for the Red Devils, Rashford limped off with a back problem less than 15 minutes after coming on at Old Trafford.

Rashford was quick to issue a message to fans afterwards, Tweeting: "Never want to feel like I’ve let my teammates, the club and most importantly the fans down so did my very best to carry on tonight and was gutted to come off.

"Top work from the lads to get into the next round."

The 21-year-old striker appeared to be in some discomfort, and is now a potential doubt for United's Premier League trip to face leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
