Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits there will be 'one or two additions' this summer as the Norwegian faces up to the task ahead of him at Old Trafford.

Barcelona provided a brutal but necessary reality check after a 3-0 win at the Camp Nou on Tuesday ensured the Catalans progressed to the Champions League semi-finals with a 4-0 aggregate victory.

United barely laid a glove on the La Liga giants over 180 minutes and fielded a back five that included Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea - all of which started eight years ago when United were knocked out of the Champions League group stages by Swiss minnows Basel.

The Red Devils are currently outsiders for the top four and a failure to qualify again for the Champions League is likely to hinder the club's transfer plans.

Solskjaer, who admitted his side are well short of the level required to compete at the top, says there will be 'additions' this summer.

It started with coaches, players and of course one or two additions in the summer.

More: Manchester United FC. Metro.co.uk understands United are interested in signing Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho but he's valued at over £100million and the Bundesliga giants are reluctant to let him go this summer.
