Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told a trio of experienced Manchester United players they need to 'step up' after a disappointing start to the new season.

After crushing Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend of the new campaign, Solskjaer's side have failed to register a win from their subsequent three matches.

United were held at Wolves and Southampton and were beaten by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford for the first time since 1989 earlier this month after a David de Gea error gifted Patrick van Aahnhold a last minute winner.

'In the first two or three games he picked the team without me.

We respect the decision, it's up to me to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.

With the likes of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw out injured for Saturday's match against unbeaten Leicester, Solskjaer could be forced to recall some of his more seasoned pros and has left them in no doubt as to what he expects from them.

He said: 'Well, you've got players who can come in with loads of experience, Juan, Nemanja and Ash who didn't start the first game and have got to step up and the average age might go up.
