Paul Pogba dropped: Why was Man Utd star on the bench against Newcastle?

Below is a summary of the full article. Click here for the full version or go back to MUFC Live

Paul Pogba was left out of Manchester United's starting line-up for their Premier League trip to Newcastle. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instead opted for a midfield pairing of Scott McTominay and Fred.

Why has Paul Pogba been dropped?

Pogba was one the players to be heavily criticised in the wake of United's 6-1 defeat to Tottenham prior to the international break.

Solskjaer will likely discuss his team selection further in his post-match interviews.

However, the Red Devils face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, which may have played a part in Pogba starting from the bench.

"Maguire is a strange case, Ole knows him best but he’ll have to be dropped eventually if things don’t improve.

"Anyway, great to see Fred starting and hopefully Mata replicates his cup form."

A fourth commented: "Paul Pogba had to be dropped on form tonight and Donny van de Beek seemed the only logical replacement.

"Fred fresh after having international break off, but will be little sympathy for Solskjaer if he fails to win while leaving new summer signing on bench again."
