Paul Scholes might have proved ex-Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho right in failed Oldham spell

When Paul Scholes took over at Oldham Athletic a little over a month ago, he declared that he would only ever work for two clubs - Oldham and Manchester United.

The move was met with plenty of media interest, and United fans were keenly watching Scholes after their former number 18 was one of Jose Mourinho’s harshest critics.

Indeed, Mourinho himself had challenged the pundits criticising him - Scholes included - after the Champions League win over Young Boys in November.

And the seven points conceded from winning positions in just seven games.

Scholes had taken over the club he supported as a boy on an 18-month contract, marking his first steps into management.

If Scholes is only open to working at Oldham or Old Trafford, his career as a manager might be over before it has even begun.

It’s difficult to judge Scholes’ management style - or even his ability to manage in general - after such a turbulent month at Boundary Park.
