Manchester United defender Phil Jones has revealed the impact assistant manager Mike Phelan has had on the squad since re-joining the club.

It takes me back a little bit into the processes we had before, which was a little bit of youth, a bit of experience, a little bit of knowledge.

And defender Jones says Phelan's knowledge of the club is crucial.

Phelan returned to United to assist caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December, and has been credited with playing a key role in United's upturn in form.

Solskjaer has tried to bring traditional United values back to the club - something Phelan is well aware of after previously working as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant manager.

He told United Review: "It's not just myself and Ole - there's Kieran McKenna involved, Michael Carrick learning his trade, so the balance is good, the feedback is good, we get on.

Phelan recently revealed that the wider coaching staff that includes Michael Carrick and Keiran McKenna are working well in the newly-assembled regime.
