Ian Wright believes football’s lawmakers should prevent penalty takers such as Bruno Fernandes from jumping in their run-ups.

Manchester United midfielder Fernandes is an infamous advocate of the tactic, often to great success.

However, former Arsenal striker Wright feels that goalkeepers have it “difficult” in the face of the uncertainty posed by penalty takers.

“It is [difficult for goalkeepers],” Wright told Match of the Day (via the Manchester Evening News).

But Paul Scholes feels that the Red Devils are relying too much on his creativity.

If they can move and the goalies can’t, that’s not fair.” Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker then asked: “Are you going to have a law that says you can’t jump?” Wright said: “Yeah, you have to go straight through your penalty run-up, no jumping.” Fernandes arrived at United with a spectacular record from the penalty spot.

Nevertheless, Fernandes has continued to be his club’s catalyst in attack.
