Manchester United have been linked with a host of names throughout the summer transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his squad.

So far this summer, United have drafted in Donny Van de Beek from Ajax as their only major recruit but work continues in the push to bring new recruits to Old Trafford.

A wealth of names have been linked with a move to join United and among them is Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who recently earned his first cap for England.

However, the 25-year-old ended speculation surrounding his future this week by penning a lucrative five-year extension with Dean Smith's side.

In the end, United opted not to make a move for Grealish in the transfer market but Rio Ferdinand is confident that he would have moved to Old Trafford had Solskjaer's side made a move.

Responding to DJ Declan Pierce, Ferdinand stated on Twitter: "United were never in for him tho... otherwise I'm sure he would have gone #simples'.

Back in March, Ferdinand referred to a TalkSport caller as a 'loon' after the fan claimed that Grealish would not leave Villa for United.
