Rio Ferdinand has warmly praised Declan Rice and has run the rule over the West Ham star’s future amid interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Rice has been heavily linked with a move to a club of Champions League calibre after impressing for West Ham over the past few years.



I don’t think he’s going to be the person that instigates it.



Discussing the player, Ferdinand admits he’s a huge fan of Rice, but concedes a move to Chelsea looks far more likely.

“He asks questions like, ‘What was he like, training with him?’.

Thus, there is little pressure on West Ham to agree his new contract, even if they would like to give him reassurances over his pay packet.

“I think he’s quite a laid-back kid in that sense but he’s a driven kid.
