If you want to be a top manager, you have to stamp your authority on the dressing room. Manchester United have had a problem in that regard, with that squad controlling things over the last few years.

To me, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing what he can to change that mantra. Today’s latest report from ESPN certainly backs that up.

Apparently, the Baby Faced Assassin has ‘ordered’ his United players to return to pre-season early after being dismayed by their fitness levels since taking over as manager.

The date he’s earmarked is July 1st, although a small number of players could miss that deadline due to participation in the Copa America.

Solskjaer and Mike Phelan were ‘struck by the unsatisfactory fitness levels’ when taking charge in December and it’s clear they’re doing what they can to try and turn things around.

This summer is going to be key. It’s about weeding out the players who don’t want to put in the effort and building around those that are willing to work.

Hopefully, the lads are all fit and raring to go come July 1st because Solskjaer is clearly ready to implement a more hard-working regime than the previous manager did.

This is the perfect way to go about things and as I always say, the teams who put in the most effort are always the best. That’s simply not a coincidence.
