Shaw's withdrawal after a strong challenge was the only moment of concern for the Reds, who had plenty of possession in the opening 45 minutes before moving into cruise control against the Australian A-League outfit with second-half goals from Marcus Rashford and James Garner.

Here's what Solskjaer had to say to MUTV's Stewart Gardner, plus the key points from his press conference after the opening Tour 2019 match at Optus Stadium...

SHAW WILL BE RESTED

“Luke he felt his hamstring was a little bit tight, so there was no point taking any more risk. You saw him still after he made a signal that he wanted to come off, he still kept on running, so it's not a bad one I think. It was just a precaution. We've been working hard and he felt some tightness there, so we'll have to assess him and probably rest him for a few days.”

THE MAIN OBJECTIVE WAS GAME TIME

“It was a game where we had the ball all the time more or less and we kept possession well. We played against a well-organised, disciplined team that didn't really give us too many gaps. We created half-chances. We got 45 minutes of work for most of them, which was the main objective of today, and of course you always like to win games.”

A PROMISING START FOR DANIEL JAMES

“He is sharp and he started well. It was a good start for him and we'll nurture him and he'll be exciting to watch for many, many games I think.”

RASHFORD'S INSTINCTIVE FINISH

“I'm very pleased with the goal he scored. It was instinctive. He swivels and finishes. It's not one of those pretty goals, but it's a goal that I've said that Marcus needs to add to his tally, because he scores wonder goals but when he can get five of these a season, hopefully he can get some like it in the league as well, he'll add to his tally.”

A MOMENT TO REMEMBER FOR GARNER

“It's great for James. We'd just had a corner kick and I said to him: 'get on the edge of the box and score with your first touch', but I think he had two, so I wasn't happy with that one! It was a fantastic strike, the boy can play and he's enjoying tonight.”

CAPTAINCY TO BE CONFIRMED

“It hasn't [been confirmed yet]. We've got quite a few possibilities there and when the season starts we'll announce. We'll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes and there we go. But as you saw, Ashley Young will wear it [at the moment] when he's playing.”

DEFINITION OF A SUCCESSFUL SEASON

“When you're at Man United you aim for trophies and we have a possibility of winning trophies. If we sit here in nine months or 10 months with a trophy, I think that's a successful season.”

Perth Glory was the first of six pre-season games being shown live on MUTV this summer. The club's official television channel is available on MUTV.com, the MUTV app, Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox and Apple TV.
