A difficult season ended in disappointment for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon after they were defeated at Old Trafford by relegated Cardiff City.

But just how good of a prospect is James Garner and could he finally be the player to step into the shoes of Michael Carrick?

United finished 32 points behind their rivals and Premier League champions Manchester City - and he knows getting the recruitment right in the summer will be key if his side are to close the gap on those above.

"He knows we believe in him, we've got great faith in him as the next Michael Carrick.

Back in February, 18-year-old James Garner made his Premier League debut for United in their 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace after he came on as a substitute in the 90th minute.

I know he's young and I know it's not fair on kids to compare to great players like Michael was, but he's the same mould, he plays simple passes, plays through the lines."

The result gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plenty of food for thought as he prepares for a busy transfer window.
