Jose Mourinho has suggested the problems he encountered at Manchester United 'are still there', as he suggested the team's performances at the back end of the season crystallised the challenges he faced at Old Trafford.

When asked whether his reported bust-up with midfielder Paul Pogba was one of the reasons for his exit at United, he offered up this response: "I will only say that I cannot say 'yes' when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible."

"On Manchester United, I only want to say two things.

"When you are almost alone, in that you don't have the support of the club close to you, while certain players go somewhat against the coach, who is the nice guy.

Mourinho was sacked last December after the club opted not to back him in the transfer market last summer, with the bounce in results following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his successor quickly fading as United finished 32 points behind champions Manchester City and in sixth place in the Premier League.

"When I say that the second season was fantastic, I say it because the potential and the objectives were met.

"You can imagine that the problems are the players, the organisation and the ambition," he told L'Equipe.
