Timo Werner insists money was not a deciding factor behind his move to Chelsea and claims Manchester United and Liverpool were both in the running to sign him from RB Leipzig.

It was Chelsea who completed a £53 million deal for Werner earlier this month, with the striker signing a five-year contract worth around £170,000 a week.

The 24-year-old, who has ended the season with 34 goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig, has been impressed by Frank Lampard's vision following discussions with the Chelsea manager.

When asked about interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Werner replied: 'It could have been.

'The entire Chelsea package was the best for me, my game and my career.

'Chelsea is a top destination in European football.

There is a really good team at Chelsea with high quality, we want to challenge at the top.
