Results and fixtures

There was no shortage of drama as the Champions League last-16 ties continued on Wednesday evening.

Tottenham will take a three-goal advantage to Germany for their second leg against Borussia Dortmund courtesy of efforts from Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente, while holders Real Madrid lead Ajax 2-1 thanks to Karim Benzema and a late Marco Asensio winner.

There was a first UCL VAR controversy in that contest at Johan Cruyff Arena as the hosts were denied a goal before half-time when Nicolas Tagliafico's header was ruled out after referee Damir Skomina looked at his touchline monitor.

That is nothing short of gutting for Ajax. It's no exaggeration to say they outplayed Madrid for an hour there.

Tottenham 3-0 Dortmund
Ajax 1-2 Real Madrid

Well... plenty of second-half drama tonight!

We'll have all the latest reaction to those two pulsating first-leg ties...

FULL TIME | Ajax 1-2 Real Madrid |

FULL TIME | Tottenham 3-0 Dortmund

What a superb second-half performance from Tottenham. Goals from Son, Vertonghen and Llorente seal an emphatic victory over Dortmund and only a monumental collapse in the second leg can stop them now.

87 mins: Sucker punch!

Stunning delivery from Carvajal from the right, and Asensio has snuck in round the back to convert.

GOAL! | Ajax 1-2 Real Madrid | Marco Asesnio 87'

GOAL! | Tottenham 3-0 Dortmund | Fernando Llorente 86'

What is happening?!

A great corner from Eriksen to the front post and there is Llorente to glance it into the far corner just minutes after coming on! What a huge goal that could prove to be.

GOAL! | Tottenham 2-0 Dortmund | Jan Vertonghen 82'

There's the suckerpunch!

Vertonghen, who has been brilliant playing at wing-back, goes for broke in behind Hakimi and gets in on the end of Aurier's superb cross to smash home past Burki.

Wembley is rocking! Dortmund are in trouble now.

We're into the final 10 minutes at Wembley, and Spurs are holding firm so far - this would be a huge result to take to Dortmund...

75 mins: This one counts!

It's more cracking pressing up the field, and Neres pulls back perfectly into the path of Hakim Ziyech who makes no mistake.

GOAL! | Ajax 1-1 Real Madrid | Hakim Ziyech 75'

Ben Hayward is at the Johan Cruyff ArenA

Benzema scores the goal with a fine finish to confirm his excellent moment of form, but it was all about Vinicius as the Brazilian cut across from left to right and teed up the French forward.

It is extremely difficult to play against that kind of pace and having been under the cosh for much of the night, Real Madrid are ahead. This is what they do in the Champions League.

Tottenham 1-0 Dortmund?65 mins: Yet again, Tottenham surge down the right and Sissoko does everything right, trying to find Eriksen in the box but Toprak makes the vital clearance.

That second goal looks to be on its way, but can Spurs make their dominance count?

60 mins: Brilliant. Harsh as it is on Ajax, it's brilliant.

Vinicius Junior is the man who makes it, tearing away from Mazraoui, driving across the box, and then keeping his composure to lay off for Karim Benzema to crash a stunning strike into the top corner.

GOAL! | Ajax 0-1 Real Madrid | Karim Benzema 60'

Ajax 0-0 Real Madrid?50 mins: As often happens just after the break, there is a slight lull in the atmosphere, and Madrid are looking to take advantage with a decent spell of pressure.

Carvajal does well down the right to tee up Benzema, and his connection is good, forcing a low save from Onana.

That was a finish of the highest quality from a player who just can't stop scoring!

Son now has nine goals in 11 games against Dortmund.

GOAL! | Tottenham 1-0 Dortmund | Heung-min Son 46'

Perfect start to the half for Spurs!

Hakimi loses out trying to wriggle out of the corner and Vertonghen delivers a superb whipped cross. Zagadou misjudges the flight but Son doesn't, sidefooting into the top corner. Lovely finish!

Believe it or not, that's his first Champions League goal of the season!

We're back underway in both games.

HALF TIME | Ajax 0-0 Real Madrid |

Whistles at the break...

Champions League Last 16 results so far

It was another night of fascinating action as the Champions League returned for the knockout stage.

Man Utd were outclassed by Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his first game as caretaker manager.

Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe struck in the second half before Paul Pogba was sent off to hand the French champions a strong 2-0 lead ahead of the second leg at Parc des Princes.

In the other last 16 tie, Roma take a slender advantage to Portugal after a double from teenager Nicolo Zaniolo sealed a narrow 2-1 win over Porto.
