Victor Lindelof is set to sign a new contract with Manchester United, according to reports in Sweden.

The 25-year-old was signed in a £31 million deal from Benfica in the summer of 2017 and has now established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice centre-back alongside Harry Maguire.

Barcelona had targeted a move for Lindelof this summer but United refused to allow the Sweden international to leave Old Trafford.

And according to Aftonbladet, Lindelof is now on the verge of agreeing a new deal with United.

The report claims that Lindelof’s agent has been in talks with United and the defender will see a ‘significant’ increase on his current £75,000-a-week salary.

Lindelof still has two years remaining, plus the option of a further year, on his current United contract but his new deal will extend his original terms.

United got their new Premier League campaign off to an excellent start with a 4-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday and Jose Mourinho has claimed that Lindelof and Maguire can form an excellent partnership for Solskjaer.

‘You can be very dangerous in attack but if you feel that a mistake is around the corner it takes your confidence away and you don’t play as well,’ said Mourinho.

‘When you feel there is something that allows you to play you are much more confident.

‘As I always said Lindelof can be a very good player. With Maguire it can be a very good partnership.’
