Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told his Manchester United squad he would have been ‘proud’ to have played alongside any one of them during a team dinner in Dubai this week, Metro.co.uk has been told.

The Norwegian whisked his squad away to a training camp in the United Arab Emirates to prepare for Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Tottenham.

The 45-year-old has won all five of his fixtures in charge so far at Old Trafford but has had little time to work with the players on the training pitch and wanted, primarily, to use the mid-season break as an opportunity to build team camaraderie.

Solskjaer has reinstated a calm, relaxed atmosphere among the squad and his positive start at Old Trafford was typified by the fact he organised a team dinner at a swanky restaurant during the club’s stay in Dubai.

Keen to maintain the feel-good factor generated by his appointment and faultless start, Solskjaer told his team that he would have been ‘proud’ to have played alongside United’s current crop.

With little time to work on specific tactics during a congested festive period, United’s biggest improvement under Solskjaer so far has been the improved levels of commitment from a number of key players.

The Norwegian thanked his squad for their ‘hard work’ since he took charge and commended their willingness to taken on board and impliment his ideas.

United face Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday which represents Solskjaer’s first major test as caretaker boss.

Paul Pogba is expected to be fit for the Red Devils despite joining the Dubai training camp late, but Chris Smalling is still struggling with a foot injury.

Fred opted to stay in Manchester during the week as his partner is heavily pregnant but the Brazilian maintained his fitness at United’s training ground.

Marcos Rojo was sent home from the camp in Dubai as his injury problems persist and the defender jetted off to his native Argentina to continue his recovery.
