Manchester United failed to conclude a deal for Sergio Reguilon after the Red Devils refused to accept Real Madrid's demand to include a buyback clause in the Spaniard's contract.

The 23-year-old looks set to join Tottenham after the north London club agreed a £27million fee with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

United had held talks to sign the left-back and had hoped to sign him for a reduced fee given his desire to move to Old Trafford but the club were unwilling to include a buyout clause in his contract.

United adopted a similar stance in January when Erling Haaland's representatives attempted to include a buyout clause in any deal for him to move to Old Trafford and the club were unwilling to do so as it meant that long-term plans could not be made with the Norwegian in the side.

Spurs clearly feel that the deal is suitable for them and it's believed Real Madrid can enact a £37m buyback clause within the first two years of the defender's deal in north London, according to AS. Advertisement.

Spurs' summer business looks far from over and the club are looking to trump United for a second time by signing Gareth Bale.
